Brazos County Acquiring Right of Way For Greens Prairie Trail Extension

Brazos County commissioners have reached an agreement to buy the land to extend Greens Prairie Trail from Wellborn Road to I & GN Road.

County Judge Duane Peters says the project, which is supposed to be finished by May 1 2016, calls on a joint agreement with TxDOT and the city of College Station to participate in building a new intersection at GPT and Wellborn Road.

Union Pacific agreed to build at its expense the railroad crossing, and Peters says the county will hire a contractor to build the road west of the crossing to I & GN.

County crews will upgrade portions of I & GN south of the extension, between Straub and Wade Road.

Once the Greens Prairie Trail extension opens, the railroad will close two crossings off Wellborn Road at Straub and Wade Roads.

Peters says the purchase price will be released when the sale is closed.

The county is also leasing land to park construction equipment associated with the project.
