Texas Senate Confirms Three Appointments to the Texas A&M System Board of Regents

The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents now has two members with ties to Bryan.

The state senate has confirmed three Aggies who were appointed last month by Governor Abbott.

Bryan native Robert Albritton, a Fort Worth area businessowner, joins Bryan businessowner Phil Adams, who has been on the board since 2001 and served as chairman the last two years. Adams and Albritton are both members of the class of 1971.

Also confirmed was the first African-American member of the Corps of Cadets to graduate. Bill Mahomes Junior, class of 1969, is a Dallas area lawyer.

Mahomes and Albritton succeed Jim Schwertner of Austin and John White of Houston, who were not reappointed.

Phil Adams currently serves on the Texas A&M University Board of Regents, to which he was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry in 2001 and reappointed in 2009. Adams is the owner and President of Phil Adams Company, which provides insurance products and services to businesses and individuals throughout Texas. Adams has served on the boards of many non-profit and civic organizations, including the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce, the Chancellor’s Century Council, the Texas A&M Mays Business School Development Council and the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Adams is a graduate of Texas A&M University.

Robert L. “Bob” Albritton is the Chairman of the Board & CEO of RCL Services Group, a railroad construction company, and co-founder and CEO of Mayfair Petroleum & Minerals LLC, both based in the Fort Worth area. Albritton founded Railroad Controls LTD in 1994 and oversaw its rise to become the largest privately owned railroad signaling and communications company in America. A native of Bryan, Albritton received a Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in 1971 and served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

William “Bill” Mahomes, Jr. is the Managing Partner of Mahomes Bolden PC, a transactional law firm that emphasizes corporate and public finance, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, and mediation. Mahomes, Jr. previously served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel to Pro-Line Corporation, a partner at an international law firm and a senior partner at a major Dallas-based law firm. He served as an officer in the United States Army Reserve for several years and on the Board of the Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship at Texas A&M University. Mahomes, Jr. received a Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a J.D. from The University Of Texas School Of Law; he was the first African American to matriculate and graduate from Texas A&M as a member of the renowned Aggie Corps of Cadets.
