Jones, Walker, Williams Pick Up All-SEC Honors

Three Texas A&M women’s basketball players were honored with yearly SEC awards on Tuesday, as Courtney Walker was named to the SEC First Team, Courtney Williams was named to the SEC Second Team, and Jordan Jones was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to being named to the SEC Second Team and All-Defensive Team.

Jones becomes the second player in SEC history to win Defensive Player of the Year twice, and the first woman to win the award in back-to-back seasons. Prior to Jones, only Ole Miss’ Arminite Price had won the award twice (2004-05 and 2006-07). Jones was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team for the second straight year and was named Second Team All-SEC for the first time. Jones averaged 9.0 points, 6.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game this season before her injury on Feb. 26.

Walker was named First Team All-SEC for the second straight year, becoming just the fifth player at A&M to earn First Team All-Conference honors in back-to-back seasons, and is the only Aggie with two First Team All-SEC honors. Walker averaged a team-leading 14.8 points per game this season, and ranks ninth on A&M’s career scoring list. The Edmond, Okla., native earned SEC Player of the Week honors twice this season.

Williams was named to the SEC Second Team for the second straight year after averaging 14.3 points per game this season. Williams had five 20+ point scoring games this season, and concluded the year by scoring 11-or-more points in each of A&M’s last seven games.
