News release courtesy of Ryan Trantham, President/CEO of the Texas A&M MSC:

On Friday, February 27, the Texas Aggie Yell Leaders, a recognized student organization at Texas A&M University, withdrew from the 2015 Spring Student Body Elections and nullified the results of the Yell Leader election. The Yell Leaders requested that Mr. Rusty Thompson, Director of Student Activities, appoint a student to serve as Election Commissioner and a staff member to serve as advisor to an independent Special Yell Leader Election. Mr. Thompson has appointed Mr. Ryan Trantham, a Texas A&M senior and current President/CEO of the Memorial Student Center, to serve as Special Election Commissioner, and Mr. Drew McMillen, Associate Director of Recreational Sports, to serve as the staff advisor. Mr. Trantham will be appointing three student leaders to assist him with the election. The current Yell Leaders are in no manner involved in the administration of the election or the selection of the election administrators and advisor.

The Special Election will take place on Wednesday, March 4th from 6:00 a.m. – 11:59 p.m. The election will take place on-line at http://voteyell.tamu.edu. All currently enrolled Texas A&M University students will be able to vote at this website during this time period. Results of the election will be announced at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5th at a location to be announced. The announcement may be delayed if there are appeals that have not been resolved or for other unforeseen reasons.

The Special Election will include the race for both Senior Yell Leader and Junior Yell Leader. The candidates in both races will be all of the candidates that appeared on the ballot for Senior Yell Leader and Junior Yell Leader during the 2015 Spring Student Body elections. No other students may file to appear on the ballot. There will not be an option on the ballot for write-in candidates.

Voters in this Special Election will be allowed to vote for up to three candidates in the Senior Yell Leader election and up to two candidates in the Junior Yell Leader elections. The votes will have equal weight. The winner in both races will be determined based upon a plurality of the votes. The three candidates that receive the most votes in the Senior Yell Leader election will be declared the winners in that race and the two candidates that receive the most votes in the Junior Yell Leader election will be declared the winners in that race. There will be no instant run-off or run-off elections.
