OPAS Unveils Sculpture Outside Rudder Tower

The next time you’re on the Texas A&M campus, look for a new sculptural tribute to MSC OPAS in front of Rudder Theater.

“Adagio”, created by College Station sculptor Larry Schueckler, was unveiled Sunday evening.

A young boy is playing a recorder in front of a ballerina, who is in front of a conductor.

Schueckler identified the boy as Henry Adams and the ballerina was retired Houston Ballet principal ballerina Mimi Hassenboehler Pittman.

The conductor was not identified, but Schueckler’s Facebook page includes a photo of himself dressed for the part.

A dedication program preceding the unveiling included OPAS Executive Director Anne Black thanking those who participated in the more than two year project, which commemorates the 40th anniversary of the performance series.
