WACO, Texas – The No. 6 Texas A&M Equestrian Team fell to No.1 Baylor, 8-11, in Waco, Texas. The Aggies fall to an even 5-4 on the season and hold a 1-2 record in SEC play.
The hunter seat competition began with the Aggies falling 4-1 in Equitation over Fences, with Haley Webster claiming the sole Texas A&M victory with a 80-77 victory over Baylor’s Abby Jorgensen. A 2-2 tie in Reining kept the Aggies three back from Baylor, with Sarah Kate Grider and Logan Pluhar bringing home wins for the Maroon & White.
The Aggies cut the Bears’ lead to two points with a 3-2 victory in Equitation on the Flat, bringing our score to 8-6 in favor of Baylor. The Aggies won their only event of the day behind strong performances from Haley Buchmiller, Audrey Gallagherand Marlena Parker, grabbing a thin 402-398 edge for the victory.
Baylor sealed the victory with a 3-2 win in Horsemanship that came down to the last rider. Avery Ellis and Pluhar took homevictories but Baylor’s Parris Rice outscored Kaci Fisher by 2.5 points to finish the day.
Pluhar went 2-0 on the day, taking home MOP honors in Reining, while Buchmiller took top honors on the Flat.
The Texas A&M Equestrian team will resume regular season action on Saturday, February 21, when the South Carolina Gamecocks will come to College Station. The Aggies look to avenge a 12-8 loss earlier in the season in South Carolina.
