BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M senior sprinter Bralon Taplin earned SEC Runner of the Week honors following his winning performance in the 400 meters at the Texas A&M Quadrangular this past weekend.
Taplin produced a world-leading time of 45.78 seconds for the 2015 indoor season, moving to No. 3 on the Aggie all-time list. Taplin won the race by a full second as he generated the second fastest time ever indoors in a dual, triangular or quadrangular meet. The record for the 400 is a 45.74 set by teammate Deon Lendore in 2014.
Also in the meet Taplin anchored the A&M 4×400 relay to a 3:07.28 victory with a split of 46.11.
Updated USTFCCCA national team computer rankings this week have the Aggie women No. 3 and the A&M men No. 4 as they head to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the Razorback Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
In addition to the Aggies and host Arkansas (men No. 3, women No. 5) the scored meet will feature additional SEC foes in Florida (men No. 2, women No. 1) and LSU (men No. 9) along with national-caliber squads from Florida State, Iowa State, Kansas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Tulsa.
