NCAA Restores Penn State Football Victories

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) _ Penn State is getting back 112 football team wins that were vacated two years ago in the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal.

A new agreement with the NCAA also restores former coach Joe Paterno’s status as the winningest coach in major college football history with 409 victories.

The university approved the deal Friday, weeks before a scheduled trial in state court on the legality of the 2012 consent decree it replaces. The new deal also directs a $60 million fine to address child abuse be spent within Pennsylvania.

The announcement follows the NCAA’s decision last year to reinstate football scholarships and let Penn State participate in post-season play. It follows a recent decision by a federal judge who declined to rule on the consent decree’s constitutionality.
