Garrett Named To FWAA Freshman All-America Team

Texas A&M freshman defensive end Myles Garrett was named to the FWAA Freshman All-America Team, the Football Writers Association of America announced on Wednesday.

Garrett, from Arlington Martin High School, had a record-setting freshman season for the Aggies in 2014. The 6-foot-5, 255 Garrett posted 11.5 quarterback sacks, which broke the A&M and Southeastern Conference freshman records. Garrett broke the old A&M record of 5.5 originally set by Sam Adams in 1991 and matched by Damontre Moore in 2010. Garrett also took down the SEC freshman mark of 8.0 QB sacks set by South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney in 2011. Garrett also erased Texas A&M’s freshman mark with 14.0 total tackles for loss (old record was 10.5 by Adams in 1991).

Garrett’s 11.5 QB sacks were tied for 10th in the Football Bowl Subdivision, and he was the top freshman pass rusher in the collegiate ranks. In the SEC statistics, Garrett was second in QB sacks and eighth in tackles for loss despite missing one game.

Garrett’s remarkable freshman stat line was 53 total tackles (29 solo stops) with team-bests of 11.5 sacks, 14.0 tackles for loss and 10 QB pressures. His high tackle game was 10 vs. Mississippi State and best sack game was 3.5 (also a school freshman record) against Louisiana-Monroe.
