Bats Not Expected to Return to Kyle Field

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) _ Texas A&M University officials are optimistic that efforts to rid Kyle Field of 250,000 Mexican free-tail bats will be successful.

The Bryan-College Station Eagle reports that the university and bat experts believe it is unlikely football fans will see many bats this fall after a $485 million renovation project is complete.

Places in the 87-year-old stadium where the state’s official flying mammal roosted have been eliminated. The timing of imploding the Kyle Field’s west side in December will also force a majority of the bats to go elsewhere upon returning from Mexico to their renovated home.

Ridding the stadium of bats could save the university thousands of dollars every year by not having to clean their droppings.
