One week ahead of schedule, the second half of the Kyle Field redevelopment formally began Sunday morning with the implosion of the west side of the stadium.
Several officials participated in pushing the plunger from the West Campus Garage, setting off two rounds of charges. The first was designed to scare off the remaining bats and birds. The second pushed out the elevator shaft towards Wellborn Road then collapsed the remaining decks.
Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp announced the 12th Man Foundation had secured an additional $35 million dollars for the redevelopment, bringing the project total to $485 million.
The video below starts with the countdown from Chancellor Sharp about 45 seconds before the implosion and continues for about 10 minutes afterwards, which was the length of time to see the debris after the dust cloud passed over us from our position on top of the West Campus Garage.
The video below is before the implosion with Chancellor Sharp welcoming invited guests along with comments from Board of Regents Chairman Phil Adams of Bryan.
