COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Seniors Shea Groom and Meghan Streight earned Scholar All-America First Team recognition from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for the second consecutive season.
Texas A&M and UCLA (2) were the only teams to have multiple players selected to the 12-player First Team. Texas A&M was one of nine schools who each placed two players among the 35 listed on three Scholar All-America teams.
Groom, who also garnered Capital One Academic All-America distinction from the College Sports Information Directors of America this year, owns a 3.55 grade-point average in Recreation, Park and Tourism Science.
Groom, an NSCAA All-America First Team and the SEC Offensive Player of the Year, finished the season with 39 points on 16 goals and seven assists.
For her career, Groom appeared in 85 matches, including 80 starts. Her 41 goals and 107 points both rank sixth on Texas A&M’s career charts.
Streight, who is set to graduate this week, went into the fall semester with a 3.61 grade-point average in allied health studies. She earned NSCAA All-America Second Team honors for her performance on the field this season.
The McKinney, Texas native started all 101 matches during her career, including 27 on the backline this season. This year, she led a defense that posted a 0.89 goals-against average and nine shutouts.
Streight earned all-conference recognition all four years, including All-SEC First Team status each of the last three years. Streight was A&M’s most decorated player during her sophomore season, earning All-SEC First Team as a midfielder and pulling SEC All-Tournament Team, NSCAA All-South Region First Team and NSCAA All-America Third Team honors. As a freshman, she was named All-Big 12 Second Team, Big 12 All-Newcomer, Big 12 All-Tournament Team and NSCAA All-Central Region Third Team.
Texas A&M experienced a historic campaign in 2014, setting a school record for wins on the way to its first-ever College Cup appearance. The Maroon and White went 22-3-2 on the season and won the SEC Double with a regular-season crown and tournament title. The Aggies became the first team to earn the SEC Double in back-to-back seasons since Florida in 2001. They also became the first SEC team since Florida in 2001 to advance to the College Cup.
