Texas A&M Applying to Host Presidential Debate

Texas A&M students, faculty, staff and other members of the community are working on an application to host a 2016 presidential debate.

Jose Bermudez, Associate Provost for Strategic Planning, says several factors are taken into consideration when selecting a host site.

“A lot of it has to do with the suitability of the facilities and infrastructure in the university and in the community. So the ability to host for example 3,000 journalists visiting from across the world, to provide Internet access, hospitality, transportation, to work with the secret service and other law enforcement agencies to provide security for the candidates.”

Bermudez also says the educational value of hosting the debate and how it can enhance student experience is a factor taken into consideration.

Applications are due in March.
