CS Council Considering First Update on Drilling Regulations Since 1991

For the first time since 1991, the city of College Station is updating its regulations on allowing oil and gas drilling.

Mayor Nancy Berry, on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs, says the proposal includes tripling the fees for each drilling permit, from $2,000 to $6,000 dollars.

The proposal also requires drilling companies to pay for road maintenance and increasing minimum insurance requirements.

The proposal also calls for banning drilling in flood plains or flood prone areas along with a prohibition on disposal wells, sump pits.

A public hearing will be held December 18th, followed by possible action.

That followed more than one hour of discussion at this week’s council meeting.
