Brazos County Health Department officials met with local media Friday to share what they’re doing to prepare for the Ebola virus.
That’s after the office has fielded calls from concerned residents about Ebola coming to the Brazos Valley.
Brazos County Alternate Health Authority Dr. Seth Sullivan says people carrying the virus are not contagious until they become very sick. Sullivan says the public should not be scared to travel and that preventing Ebola is as easy as preventing a cold. That means washing your hands and using alcohol based hand sanitizer often.
Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Mike Paulus says emergency services are being educated. Paulus says they have to anticipate that a lot of people will be involved if Ebola occurs in Brazos County. He said they have briefed local police departments and will reach out to other large organizations that could be affected such as school districts.
