HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) _ A 28-year-old convicted killer is set to die by lethal injection tonight for the rape-slaying of a Dallas woman abducted while making a call at a pay phone a decade ago.
Attorneys for Texas death row inmate Derrick Lamone Johnson were in the federal courts last night trying to put off his execution for the murder of LaTausha Curry.
Evidence showed Curry, 25, was abducted after getting out of her car to make a nighttime call. She was then beaten with a two-by-four and suffocated with her blouse when she fought back against her attackers.
