With their first walk-off win of the season, the Brazos Valley Bombers (9-3) downed the Texas Marshals (3-10) 5-4 on the team’s “World Cup Night.”
Though rain threatened to shorten the Bombers’ evening throughout the game, the team found a way to win after capitalizing on a pair of Marshals errors in the bottom of the ninth to score second baseman Jimmy Norris.
“It looked like they were going to get a double play to end the game, but Jimmy didn’t stop running,” said Curtis Dixon, Bombers head coach. “Coach Gillum sent him there at third, and he was standing at home plate—not standing at third—when they came off the bag.”
Now a regular part of the Bombers’ annual summer festivities, Thursday night’s game featured an appearance from traveling performer Reggy the Purple Party Dude, who entertained the Cellucor Field crowd throughout the game with his antics.
The Bombers will play the second leg of a four game home stand Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Marshals, and will celebrate the birthday of 41st President George H.W. Bush with a “Fireworks Extravaganza” in his honor after Friday’s game.
