12 Year Old Rescued Off Bolivar Peninsula

GALVESTON, Texas (AP) _ The Coast Guard has rescued a 12-year-old boy who was floating on an inner tube near Galveston when currents pulled him out to sea.

A crew aboard a Coast Guard helicopter located the boy Tuesday afternoon about 400 yards off Bolivar (BAW’-luh-vuhr) Peninsula.

The boy, whose name wasn’t immediately released, was not hurt.

Authorities say the child was swimming with his family at Crystal Beach when he drifted too far into the Gulf of Mexico and could not get back to shore.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Coast Guard. A helicopter crew lowered a rescue swimmer to help rig the boy for hoisting into the aircraft.

A Coast Guard boat crew retrieved the boy’s inner tube.
