In just a few days’ time, the five-‐day pinnacle event for the Texas 4‐H will kickoff, bringing with it over 4,000 participants and an estimated economic impact over one million dollars.
Texas A&M’s campus will serve as the primary host site for the approximate 50 individual events, scheduled June 9 through 12.
Other events throughout the week include a “4K for 4-H Walk to Run” to promote healthy living, a “4-‐H Has Talent” competition, and evening assemblies to recognize contest winners.
Headlining the festivities will be Texas country music star Wade Bowen, who is set to perform Thursday evening in a private performance for the attendees.
“We are excited to have over 4,000 youth and adults in College Station for this year’s 2014 Texas 4-H Roundup,” said Kyle Merten, Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist with Texas 4-H Youth Development. “4-H Roundup is Texas 4‐H’s premiere leadership event and we are always excited to see the best of the best come and compete at this exciting event.”
In addition to the many other activities, 200 4-H students are set to receive more than $2.3 million in scholarships, which will be applied to their collegiate studies. The participants will discover which scholarship they will be receiving at the Scholarship Assembly, set for Monday June 9 at Reed Arena.
The participants at the Texas 4‐H Roundup learn leadership skills, citizenship development, team building and competition skills as well as gain the opportunity to network with youth and adults.
Participants at 4‐H Roundup are selected from contests held at the county and district level in each of the 12 Texas A&M AgriLife Extension districts.
The general public is encouraged to track the 4‐H Roundup activities by using the social media hashtag #2014Roundup.
