CS Council Receives Lick Creek Nature Center & Hike-Bike Trail Updates

This fall, construction is scheduled to start on the Lick Creek Park nature center and a hike and bike trail connecting Lick Creek to Creekview Park.

The College Station city council was given an update on both projects Thursday night.

Parks and Recreation director David Schmitz says local organizations are volunteering to sponsor programs once the nature center is open. Asked about soliciting private funding, including naming rights, Schmitz says that’s on their radar. The council also agreed to explore naming rights as a separate topic during a future meeting.

The trail’s path was relocated along Pebble Creek Parkway instead of near Spring Creek in order to save at least $1.5 million dollars. Councilman James Benham’s question about burying overhead power lines received a quick response from Mayor Nancy Berry.

Both projects are slated to take 12 months to complete, and both were financed by bonds approved by voters six years ago.
