COLLEGE STATION- Texas A&M defeated Oklahoma City 103-60 in its only exhibition game of the 2013-14 season, on Sunday evening at Reed Arena. The Aggies had six players reach double figures.
Karla Gilbert led the Aggies with 18 points and eight rebounds. Gilbert was one of six Aggies that would have set a career-high in points this game if not for the game’s exhibition status.
Achiri Ade impressed in her first senior college action, scoring 16 points and adding in seven rebounds. The Aggies other junior college transfer, Tavarsha Scott-Williams, came off the bench to score 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting.
Jordan Jones had 11 points, five rebounds and a team-leading seven assists. Courtney Williams added six assists to go with 10 points. Courtney Walker had six rebounds to go with her 10 points.
The No. 16 Aggies came out of the gates strong with a 9-0 run the first 3:01 of the game, with five points from Courtney Williams in that stretch, and extended its lead to 17-4 before five minutes of the season had elapsed. Texas A&M, paced by 14 points from Achiri Ade, took a 53-31 lead into the break.
Texas A&M opened the second half on an 18-2 run, opening a 71-33 lead before Oklahoma City made a second-half field goal, before eventually cruising to a 103-60 victory
The Aggies return to action on Nov. 11 when they head to The Super Pit in Denton, Texas to face North Texas in the regular season opener. Texas A&M returns home on Nov. 13 to host Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m.
