CS Council Considering Changing Rental Registration Regulations

CScoun103013RentalReg_featIt’s been four years since the College Station city council started requiring registration for the owners of rental homes and duplexes.

With an entirely new council in place, a review process began during a special meeting Wednesday night.

Council suggestions included James Benham wanting to do away with annual registration fees and replacing it with fining property owners who don’t list their rentals.

Planning and Development Director Bob Cowell says the council that passed the ordinance intended for enforcement to be on a complaint basis.

Cowell also says code enforcement has become more pro-active. He says new five bedroom homes are checked to confirm whether more than four unrelated relatives are under the same roof.

Only Jess Fields, participating in his last council meeting, wanted to eliminate the program.

The council is tentatively scheduled to consider changes November 25th.
