Crancer Receives National Honor from Golf Week

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Following a school-record performance that netted the first win of his collegiate career, Texas A&M sophomore Ben Crancer was named Player of the Week by Golf Week on Monday.

The sophomore from Kirkwood, Mo., set a Texas A&M men’s golf record for 54-hole score vs. par at 16-under while claiming individual medalist honors at the Dick’s Challenge Cup. Prior to Crancer’s performance, the previous record was 13-under par, held by a quartet of Aggies – Jordan Russell (2010 Topy Cup of Japan), Bronson Burgoon (2008 John Burns Intercollegiate), Jeff Maggert (1986 Morris Williams Intercollegiate) and Philip Parkin (1984 All-American Intercollegiate).

All three of Crancer’s rounds (68-63-66=197, -16) at the event came in under par including a second round 63 which set the competitive course record at The Golf Club of Tennessee.

Additionally, the second-year Aggie became the first Texas A&M golfer to finish a 54-hole tournament in less than 200 strokes.

Crancer and his Texas A&M men’s golf teammates are back in action Oct. 7-8 when the Aggies tee off at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on the Old Overton Golf Club in Vestavia Hills, Ala.
