There was a natural gas leak on the A&M campus Thursday afternoon.
According to A&M’s Code Maroon alert system, it took place near the Albritton bell tower at 3:32 p.m. Campus activities were disrupted until 5:22 p.m.
Traffic was blocked at the intersections of Wellborn and George Bush and Wellborn and University. The Interdisciplinary Life Sciences Building was evacuated and those in other nearby buildings were told not to leave. And transportation service buses were stopped.
Chace Murphy at Atmos Energy says a contractor hit a gas line.
Murphy issued a reminder to call 8-1-1 at least two business days before starting any digging to check for utility lines.
