Exactly one year after Constable Brian Bachmann was killed while on duty, friends gathered Tuesday morning at the park renamed in his honor.
The celebration began with Bachmann’s parents, Bradley and Carmen, receiving the Medal of Honor given to law enforcement by President Obama in May, and finished after Bachmann’s sister, Rebecca Davis, thanked the community on his behalf.
Davis orchestrated the balloon release, asking participants to cheer, pray, and remember Bachmann.
Meanwhile, Pastor Tommy Myrick of Christ United Methodist Church said Bachmann’s life should inspire others to look for people’s needs and meet them.
Myrick thanked God for healing, but prayed for continued healing in the community.
Constable Jeff Reeves, who was a deputy under Bachmann, called the gathering a testament to Bachmann, and said that although his death was truly a tragedy, Bachmann would want others to move forward with lessons learned from his life.
Sheriff Chris Kirk, who served as the master of ceremonies, called it “the first anniversary of Bachmann’s life in Heaven,” and explained that the blue color of the balloons represents the color of Bachmann’s service uniform.
Kirk told people to let go of their grief with the balloons, and remember where Bachmann is and who he is with.
