The Bombers seemed as if they couldn’t be stopped in the 4th, but the Pump Jacks regrouped late taking the game 16-7.
East Texas started out strong, earning two right out of the gate in the top of the first., followed by two more in the top of the third. The Bombers remained quiet until the bottom of the third, when they were able to get on the board after a double from Graham McIntyre and a sacrifice fly from Mason Randolph. After three innings of play the Bombers trailed the Pump Jacks 4-1.
The fourth inning brought an explosive comeback from the Bombers, who brought in six runs to take the lead. G.R. Hinsley started things off with a single, followed by a single from Blake Kopetsky. Next, Hunter Melton came to the plate and slammed a double that brought in Hinsley to start off the run rally. Shortstop Andy Smith popped a sacrifice fly to bring in Kopetsky, followed by a single from McIntyre to bring in Melton. Randolph and Ford Moore both earned bases on singles, loading the bases for Patrick McLendon to bring in McIntyre on a sacrifice fly. Brett Kauten earned his first single of the single to bring in Randolph, followed by a single from Hinsley that brought in Moore to round out the scoring for the inning. After four innings Brazos Valley led East Texas 7-4.
Despite the rally, the Pump Jacks were able to cut off the lead by earning three of their own in the top of the fifth. With the score tied at seven, the game turned into a pitching duel for the next two innings, with no runs coming in from either side. Unfortunately, the next eight runs to come across the plate all came from East Texas in the top of the eighth and ninth. The Bombers were unable to catch up, bringing in the 16-7 defeat.
Hayden Howard handled the mound for the Bombers for the first four innings, followed by three innings from Jason Freeman, an eighth inning appearance from Nick Johnson, summed up by two innings from Andrew Hohn.
The Bombers will face the Pump Jacks for a rematch on Wednesday at 7:05 at American Momentum Bank ballpark
