Bombers Lay Down the Law for the Marshals

Bryan-College Station, TX (July 2, 2013) –

After a weekend on the road against The Woodlands, the Bombers returned to the Brazos Valley to face the Texas Marshals of Dallas. While the crowd enjoyed the cooler weather, the Bombers took down the Marshals in a 6-2 victory.

The Marshals were able to get on the board immediately, scoring their only two runs of the night in the top of the first after a triple and a wild pitch. The Bombers got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the third when right fielder Herb Romero got on base with a single then was later brought in by shortstop Horacio Correa III.

The bottom of the fifth brought a huge rally for Brazos Valley, as they earned five runs in the bottom of the inning. To start the inning off catcher Mason Randolph was able to reach first on an error. On the next batter, more errors allowed second baseman Miles Manning to reach second and Randolph to come in and tie the score at 2. Later in the inning center fielder Blake Kopetsky hit a single to center that brought in both Manning and third baseman Patrick McLendon. Immediately following, left fielder Graham McIntyre slammed a double that brought in pinch hitter Alexis Mercado and Kopetsky. At the end of the fifth the Bombers had taken the lead with a score of 6-2, which held until the end of the game.

Pitcher Kurt Giller, who earned Player of the Game, threw six straight innings with six strikeouts. Nick Johnson held down the mound for the seventh and eighth with three strikeouts, and Logan Burch ended the night in the ninth with one strikeout.
