New Laws And Safety Tips For July Fourth

Good news for those who love their fireworks.

The signing of House Bill 1813 last month means that citizens of Bryan-College Station can travel in and out of the twin cities and store fireworks, as long as they stay unopened and sealed in the original packaging.

Bryan Fire Department Investigator William Bouse cautions that any fireworks that have been opened and look usable can still be confiscated, and reminds folks that it is still illegal to light fireworks within the city limits of either Bryan or College Station.

He and College Station’s Bart Humphreys say that if you do shoot fireworks off outside of town, be extremely careful because it’s been very dry lately.

Bouse says to increase the safety at your festivities by shredding the pasture closely ahead of time, watering it down, having a source for extinguishing, and watching carefully where fireworks go.

There are also plenty of other fun options, such as firework shows at the George Bush Museum, Lake Bryan, Washington on the Brazos, and there are usually great family activities that go along with the shows.
