Last Edition of The United Methodist Reporter Has Been Published

DALLAS (AP) _ A newspaper that has chronicled United Methodist church affairs in Texas since its days as a republic is publishing its last edition.

The Dallas-based United Methodist Reporter publishes its last edition Friday.

The Dallas Morning News reports the newspaper, which was independent of the denomination, traces its roots to 1847. That year, Texas Methodists began publishing the Texas Christian Advocate and Brenham Advertiser in Brenham.

The publication had gone through several name and location changes until it moved to Dallas in 1887 and adopted its present name in 1981.

Like other print publications, the Reporter has struggled financially for years as readers moved to the Internet.
