Man Killed on Construction Site

A Bryan construction worker died Wednesday afternoon at the site of a wastewater lift station being built to serve the A&M Health Science Center north of Easterwood Airport.

College Station Police (CSPD) say 49 year old Armando Gonzalez was at the bottom of a 30 to 40 foot hole when two-20 foot shoring panels, each weighing 1,500 pounds, fell on him.

Gonzalez was employed by Elliott Construction of College Station.

Police and College Station firefighters were notified shortly after 3:30 p.m.

CSPD spokeswoman Patricia Logan says the city’s fire and public works departments removed the panels to get to the victim. That was completed at 7:25 p.m.

The location of the incident is the 8800 block of Burgess, which is north and east of the interchange of FM 60 and Highway 47.

Patricia Logan visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
