Bryan City Council Awards $6 Million Dollar Construction Contract For Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements

One of the city of Bryan’s three wastewater treatment plants is getting $6 million dollars of improvements. That’s after the city council at its last regular meeting awarded a contract for the Still Creek plant near Highway 21 and Harvey Mitchell Parkway. Public works director Jayson Barfknecht says the project changes the way waste is broken down from an anaerobic system to an aerobic system. Parts will be replaced at the grease plant, which serves 23 businesses that processes what Barfknecht says is collected in grease traps at restaurants and the waste in portable toilets. There will also be a replacement of what is called a bar screen, which protects the treatment system equipment by blocking rags, plastic, and other debris. The project, which is being paid from the city’s wastewater fund, not from taxes. The contract amount is about $300,000 dollars above the engineer’s estimate. Two Sets Of Arrests By College Station Police On Drug Charges

Motorists in College Station driving Thursday morning (September 5) on Welsh between Holleman and Southwest Parkway may have noticed a large police presence. CSPD’s social media says their SWAT team joined the special investigative unit in executing what was described as a “high risk narcotics search warrant”. That led to the arrest of a son and his mother. 23 year old Kaden Luna was charged with delivering up to five pounds of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. 47 year old Monica Luna was arrested for possessing up to five pounds of marijuana. WTAW News has asked CSPD about the relationship between the Luna’s, the amount of marijuana that was seized, and its street value. As of Thursday afternoon, online jail records did not list a bond amount for either person. A College Station police officer stops a car Thursday (September 5) at two in the morning for driving without working headlights and taillights and for unconfirmed insurance. CSPD arrest reports say the driver, 47 year old Burnis Price of San Antonio, was taken to jail for possessing marijuana and methamphetamine, evidence tampering for dropping the meth outside the car and grinding it into the pavement, and endangering three children under the age of three by having the drugs in the car. The arrest report did not say who took custody of the children. As of Thursday afternoon, online jail records listed only a bond on the misdemeanor marijuana charge of $3,000 dollars.
