Slain Constable Honored in State and National Ceremonies

State and national law enforcement ceremonies to remember the fallen are including slain Brazos County Constable Brian Bachmann.

Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk and the department’s honor guard depart Saturday for Washington D.C. with members of the Bachmann family.

Kirk says the $10,000 cost is being paid by donations from the Brazos County Citizen Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association. Contributions can be made by contacting Rena Frank by e-mail at bccsaa (at) gmail (dot) com.

Kirk and the honor guard were in Austin last weekend with members of the Bachmann family as state officials honored the loss of 25 officers in the line of duty during the past two years.

The Texas Peace Officers Memorial tribute began last Saturday.  Kirk says 85 motorcyclists from Brazos County joined deputies on the drive to Austin, where the statewide group then proceeded to the state capitol.  Last Sunday there was a candlelight vigil where the new names on the memorial were read. And on Monday there was a memorial service that began with a statewide honor march that included Brazos County that marched from the river down Congress Avenue to the south capitol steps that included remarks from state officials.
