Just outside the front entrance to the BTU office Friday morning, six Bryan Police officers subdued a local man seen trying to enter cars in the parking lot.
Several officers picked up 29 year old Johnnie Gooden and carried him to an ambulance in handcuffs and leg restraints.
Gooden, who was arrested for resisting and evading arrest and assaulting a public servant, is out of jail after posting bond.
The arrest report indicated Gooden was shot several times with a Taser but with no impact.
The filing period ended Monday (August 19) in this November’s College Station and Bryan city council and school board elections. As of Monday, August 19 at 5:45 p.m. There are three contested races for College Station city council. Seeking the place three seat are David White and Valen Cepak. Linda Harvell is not eligible to run again for the place three seat due to term limits. Seeking the place four seat are Aron Collins, Craig Regan, and Melissa McIlhaney. Incumbent Elizabeth Cunha chose not to seek re-election. Running for re-election in place five is incumbent Bob Yancy. Seeking the place six seat are Tre Watson and Scott Shafer. Dennis Maloney is not eligible to run again for the place six seat due to term limits. On Friday afternoon (August 16), Craig Regan switched his candidacy from the College Station council’s place six to the place four position. All four incumbent Bryan city council members have filed for re-election. And all of the incumbents have opposition. Incumbent Jared Salvato, who has filed for single member district three, is opposed by Robert Achgill. Incumbent James Edge, who has filed for single member district four, is opposed by Shane Savage. Incumbent Marca Ewers-Shurtleff, who has filed for single member district five, is opposed by Patrick Giammalva. One person has filed for each of the two positions on the College Station ISD school board. Darin Paine is seeking his second term as the at large place one member. Two people have filed for Bryan ISD school board. David Stennis has filed for the district wide at large seat. Incumbent Mark McCall chose not to seek re-election. Ruthie Waller, who is seeking her fourth term representing BISD’s single member district four, is opposed by former Bryan city councilman Buppy Simank. On the eve of classes starting at Texas A&M, comes eight reports of property crimes. In seven of the eight incidents, there were no signs of forced entry. News releases from university police (UPD) say six thefts took place at the health science center in offices and laboratories. The list of stolen items includes credit and debit cards, gift cards, cash, a drivers license and an A&M identification card. UPD also received a theft report at an unlocked doom room, where a backpack containing a laptop was taken. And an electric scooter that was secured with a cable lock was taken from outside the west campus student recreation center. Anyone having information pertaining to this crime or other incidents is asked to call UPD at 979-845-2345. And reminders from UPD and other local law enforcement agencies to reduce the risk of being a crime victim includes: Secure doors and windows to your residence when leaving for the day. Secure valuables or take them with you whenever possible. If you observe or have safety concerns, such as mechanical issues with doors or locks, report them to staff immediately. If you observe suspicious activity, report it to the police immediately.
Six arrests have been made charges of possessing and selling drugs and engaging in organized criminal activity in College Station and Bryan. A post on the College Station police department’s Facebook page says searches of two homes in Bryan and one in College Station led to finding among other things, 1,500 fraudulently manufactured Xanax and Adderall pills and 70 vape cartridges containing T-H-C. WTAW News has asked CSPD for an estimated value of the drugs that were seized. According to online records from the Brazos County jail: On Monday (August 19), 26 year old Cooper Currie of Bryan was booked in the Brazos County jail for possessing between five and 50 pounds of marijuana, a motion to revoke probation on a conviction for possessing between five and 50 pounds of marijuana, four counts of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, and engaging in organized criminal activity. Currie is held on bonds totaling $115,000 dollars. On August 6, 23 year old Cayden Carroll of College Station was booked on charges of two counts of possessing a controlled substance. Bonds on those charges totals $13,000 dollars. Carroll is held without bond on charges of violating probation following two convictions for burglary of a habitation. On August 2, 19 year old Zakary Webb of College Station was booked on charges of two counts of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and possessing marijuana. Webb was released from jail August 3 after posting bonds totaling $45,000 dollars. 20 year old Kate-Lynn Lindeman of Whitney Texas was arrested May 16 for engaging in organized criminal activity. She was released from jail the following day after posting a $25,000 dollar bond. 27 year old Alexander Welch of Temple was arrested May 15 for felony possession of marijuana. He was released from jail the same day after posting a $12,000 dollar bond. 21 year old Daegin Hamilton of Bryan was arrested April 23 on three counts of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance and felony possession of marijuana. He was released the next day after posting bonds totaling $44,000 dollars.
