Aggies Move Into Tie for 10th Place

HOOVER, Ala. – No. 23 Texas A&M moved into a tie for 10th place at the SEC Women’s Golf Championships at the Greystone Golf & Country Club Saturday afternoon.

A&M moved up three spots in the standings, shooting 21-over, an improvement of nine strokes from the day before, sitting at 51-over (318-309) at the championships. The 309 from the Aggies tied for the sixth best round from the field of 11 top-50 teams.

“We did a better job today with our attitude beginning at hole one,” head coach Trelle McCombs said. “The team still made a couple mistakes that cost us some strokes today. Par is a great score on this course and we need to make sure that we are doing everything we can to card as many pars tomorrow as possible.”

No. 2 Alabama (304-293) moved into first place after two rounds, followed by Mississippi State (306-303), No. 18 Georgia (306-305), No. 34 Kentucky (306-308) and No. 31 LSU (303-311) to round out the top-five. No. 40 South Carolina (306-309), No. 8 Vanderbilt (309-309), No. 6 Arkansas (313-308), No. 32 Tennessee (312-309), A&M and No. 43 Auburn (321-306) all reside within the top-10. Missouri (312-321), No. 7 Florida (315-318) and Mississippi (317-321) round out the leaderboard.

Individually, Chelsea Mocio (82-73) made a 39-place jump in the standing moving into a tie for 21st after day-two, Mocio carded a one-over with three birdies on the day. Katerina Ruzickova (80-76) bounced back from a tough first day to shoot just four-over on Saturday and move into a tie for 27th, improving 20 places on the day.

“Chelsea played a vital role our improvement today,” McCombs added. “As a team, we really needed her to bounce back and have a great day ad she went out there and did that. I am very proud to see that sort of resilience and how she handled herself today.”

Sarah Beth Davis (78-79), Susy Grunden (80-81) and Natalie Reeves (80-84) currently occupy in 31st, 55th and 62nd place respectively to round out the Aggies competing at their first-ever SEC Championship.

Play resumes at the championship Sunday morning at 8 a.m. (CT), the Aggies will tee-off beginning at 8:27 a.m. (CT) from hole No. 10 alongside Tennessee.
