The College Station City Council Thursday recognized the work of A&M Police Chief Elmer Schneider, who retires Friday after a more than 40 year career.

Schneider joined UPD while attending school then started full-time in 1971.

Schneider praised his employees, saying “the important thing is the people I stand beside every day and the people that I work with, and for all those great relationships that we have within this. But it is with a kind of sad tone for me because I spent so much of my life standing beside these men and women in uniform and I’m gonna miss each and every one of you.”

A retirement reception will be held Friday, April 5, from 3 until 5 p.m. at the George Bush Presidential Library Annenberg Presidential Conference Center Banquet Room. A reception program will start at 3:45 p.m.
