Kent Named SEC Freshman of the Week

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Aggies’ left-handed pitcher Matt Kent was honored as the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

With the Aggies looking for doubleheader sweep and a road series win over No. 6 Ole Miss, Kent entered the game with the Rebels leading 5-2 in the second and kept their prolific bats in check as A&M registered a 10-6 come-from-behind win. The Rebel assault already chased two A&M pitchers from the contest when the Aggie freshman entered the contest to start the bottom of the second. The southpaw worked 5.0 scoreless frames, holding Ole Miss to three hits and one walk while striking out three. With the win, A&M improved to 5-1 in SEC play.

On the season, Kent owns a 2-1 record with a 3.07 ERA and seven strikeouts in 14.2 innings of work. He ranks second on the squad with 12 appearances and is holding foes to a .231 batting average.

Kent became the second A&M player to earn SEC Freshman of the Week recognition, joining Jonathan Moroney (March 4).
