CS Council Approves Sidewalks, Streets, & Condo Projects

Sidewalk, streets, and condos were approved during Thursday’s College Station city council meeting.

The council approved paying one-fifth of the cost rebuilding Church Street from University around what has been a curve going to the west. This will be between two multi-story student housing projects under construction, The Stack and The Rise. The city will pay a maximum of $111,000 dollars and developers the remaining $422,000. Construction will start in the next five to six months. This will also provide a future connection to South College.

The latest multiple-unit housing project for council consideration is not in Northgate. Developers received approval to rezone land off Southwest Parkway near Wellborn to build 53 condo units.

It’s been a year since the city received a citizen request to provide a sidewalk that meets the Americans with Disabilities Act in the Eastgate neighborhood. The council approved a six foot wide sidewalk along Dexter between Park Place and Winding Road, which will provide a path along Dexter from Winding Road to George Bush Drive.

The council also approved building an eight foot wide sidealk along University from the new fire station to Texas.
