Tuesday afternoon and evening, the Bryan City Council brings back a long debated proposal to create a historical district west of the downtown area.
There will be a staff presentation during the afternoon workshop beginning at 4 p.m., then the council considers first-round approval during the evening.
There’s 14 pages of petition signatures against the district, more than enough opposition that a supermajority of six council members must approve the request.
The historical district would require building owners in the affected area to receive advance approval for changes, like a new color when painting the home’s exterior or a new design of roof, door, and window, or contemplating porch enclosures, fences, and building additions.
The general boundaries of the proposed district are William Joel Bryan, Parker, 30th, and Reed, the location of homes built between the 1890’s and 1930’s.
