Cowboys LB Carter out for year with elbow injury
Cowboys linebacker Bruce Carter is out of for the season
with a dislocated left elbow, making him the fourth Dallas defensive starter to
go on injured reserve.
Carter injured the elbow in Thursday’s 38-31 loss to Washington. The Cowboys
have lost both inside linebackers with defensive leader Sean Lee suffering a
season-ending toe injury last month.
The other defensive starters out for the year are safety Barry Church and
defensive end Kenyon Coleman.
The Cowboys said Monday they filled Carter’s roster spot by signing Brady
Poppinga, a seven-year veteran who last played for St. Louis in 2011.
Dallas also released receiver Andre Holmes and replaced him with veteran
Anthony Armstrong. Miles Austin injured a hip in the Washington game.
Health concerns mount for first-place Texans
The Houston Texans are hurting heading into the stretch run.
The Texans (10-1) go into Sunday’s game at Tennessee (4-7) with a handful of
worrisome injuries, most of them at linebacker.
Coach Gary Kubiak says outside linebacker Brooks Reed is going to miss time
with a “significant” groin injury suffered in the Texans’ 34-31 overtime win
in Detroit on Thanksgiving.
Houston was already short-handed at linebacker after losing Brian Cushing for
the season to a torn left knee ligament. Tim Dobbins, who took Cushing’s role,
hurt his left shoulder against Chicago, though he is expected to play on Sunday.
Kubiak says linebacker Bradie James (hamstring) and right tackle Derek Newton
(right knee) are day to day.
