Manziel earnes 6th Freshman of the Week honor, Ellis Field holds 1st Round of NCAA Soccer & SEC Offensive player of the week for Volleyball

Texas A&M freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel earned his sixth Freshman of the Week honor from the South eastern Conference on Monday after leading the Aggies to a 38-13 win over Mississippi State. Manziel,  helped the Aggies generate 693 total yards against the Bulldogs. It was the Aggies’ highest ranked road victory since beating  No. 12 Texas in 2006. Well, the Aggie can topple that record too with a road win this weekat no. 1 Alabama. The Crimson Tide is coming off their biggest road win of the year too, snatching a last minute victory in Death Valley against LSU. If you go to the Bama web site the winning seriese has already got a name…”the drive” !

Championship first round game at Ellis Field on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:00pm the NCAA announced on Monday. First kick is slated for 7 p.m. Texas A&M received an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship to keep their streak alive at 18 consecutive years. The Aggies are one of five teams to make it to every NCAA Tournament since 1995. A&M head coach G Guerrieri and North Carolina’s Anson Dorrance are the only two head coaches to appear in every NCAA Tournament since 1995.

Coach Gary Blair Has his name on a guy…No it’s still called Reed Arena but back at his al ma mater. From the Class of 63’ at Bryan Adams High…It’s Now the Gary Blair Gym. The Ag’s open play at no. 9 Louisville this Friday. 

Allie Swatski the Jr. A&M Volleyball setter was named SEC Offensive player of the week. She is the first Aggie to win the SEC honor.

Hockey fans have some reason for optimism that the NHL season might be beginning and the 51-day lockout ending. Both sides are resuming formal talks today in hopes of hammering out a new collective bargaining agreement.

ESPN radio announcer Jim Durham, who called NBA games for the network since 96’, has died. He was 65. ESPN said Monday that Durham died over the weekend at his home in Tomball.
