The Bryan Police Department has sent out another scam alert.
Officer Kelley McKethan says BTU customers have received calls from someone saying they have an outstanding balance.
The customers are told to buy a prepaid debit card then call a number that isn’t BTU to make the payment.
Normal procedures for BTU residential customers do not include a phone call. They will receive notice in the mail with instructions on how to pay their outstanding balance.
Normal procedures for BTU commercial customers do include a phone call from BTU at 979-821-5700 during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
McKethan says if anyone has a question as to the validity of such a call they are asked to call BTU at 979-821-5700 and confirm before paying.
Kelley McKethan visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
