The Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team was ranked No. 21 in the initial College Swimming Coaches Association of America Div. I Team Rankings of the 2012-13 season. The Aggies were one of eight teams from the SEC to be ranked joining the Aggies in the top 25 are No. 1 Florida, No. 6 Auburn, tNo. 9 Georgia, No. 12 South Carolina, No. 20 Alabama, No. 22 LSU and No. 24 Tennessee. The Aggies are set to compete against the top-ranked Gators in Gainesville, Fla., on Nov. 2.
With labor negotiations stalled, there does not appear to be any hope of preserving a full 82-game season by Thursday’s deadline. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said as much Wednesday. “Unfortunately, it looks like an 82-game season is not going to be a reality,”
Champion Olympic wrestler Jeff Blatnick has died at age 55. Blatnick overcame cancer to win a gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1984 Summer Olympics and went on to a career as a sports commentator and motivational speaker. Officials at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y., say Blatnick died there of heart failure.
