The Commandant of the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets has confirmed the death of a student who was last seen August 23.

The body of 22 year old Anthony Carey of Houston was found Monday in a wooded area in Marlin.

Commandant Joe Ramirez, Jr. wrote on the Corps website that Carey, class of 2013, was going to be the Executive Officer of Squadron 18 this year.

Carey’s funeral service will be held Friday morning at 10 in Houston at Chapelwood United Methodist Church.

From a letter written by Corps Commandant and Army Brigadier General Joe E. Ramirez, Jr., posted on the Corps of Cadets website:

It is with extreme sadness that I confirm the death of cadet Anthony Carey ’13, a member of the Corps of Cadets. Anthony, a senior Agricultural Systems Management major from Houston, was a member of Squadron 18 and joined the Corps of Cadets in the spring of 2010 as a sophomore. All who knew Anthony remember him as a friendly, positive young man who had a strong work ethic and a good sense of humor. Anthony was going to be the Executive Officer of Squadron 18 this year. He was a very well-liked young man, and his loss will affect all of us for a long time to come.

I want to offer my condolences to Anthony Carey’s family, friends and fellow cadets on his loss. We all stand together as Aggies today as we mourn the loss of one of our own.  Anthony Carey will be missed by all of us.

A funeral for Anthony will be held in Houston at 10 a.m. Friday, August 31 at Chapelwood United Methodist Church in the 11140 block of Greenbay Street.

As an Aggie, I hope the Carey family will take solace in knowing that Anthony will never be forgotten, and that the unique Aggie spirit of camaraderie that is such an integral part of Texas A&M and the Corps of Cadets will hold fast for them in this very difficult time.

“We are the Aggies, the Aggies are we. True to each other, as Aggies can be.”
