Acting Bryan City Manager Kean Register has announced that Gary Miller will assume General Manager duties at Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU) on an interim basis beginning July 1.
In May, current BTU General Manager Dan Wilkerson announced his retirement effective June 30, after 34 years of service at BTU.
“Because of Dan Wilkerson, the General Manager position at BTU will always have big shoes to fill,” said Miller. “I’m looking forward to the new challenges with this position.”
Miller has served as a Group Manager at BTU since 2005, overseeing the Qualified Scheduling Entities (QSE) Power Marketing & Power Production areas of the organization. Prior to his employment at BTU, Miller compiled 21 years of experience in the energy sector, working for TXU, Central and South West Services, Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and others.
“Gary Miller’s extensive experience both at BTU and in the energy industry makes him the ideal person to fill the General Manager position at this time,” Register said.
At BTU, Miller has been responsible for gas and power supply procurement programs and all aspects of QSE trading and scheduling operations in the ERCOT market. Miller was also responsible for BTU’s generation fleet and management of BTU’s share of the Gibbons Creek Coal Facility. He is a member of ERCOT’s Wholesale Markets Subcommittee, representing the Municipal sector.
While with BTU, Miller has negotiated several power purchase agreements, including the procurement of wind and solar resources to supplement BTU’s existing portfolio. Miller has also managed the purchase and construction of the latest addition to the generation portfolio, a GE LM6000 gas turbine located at the Dansby Power Plant.
Miller and his wife Sandra have three children: Courtney, 23 years old, Dean, 21, and Mikki, 13.
