Recap of Bryan Employee Health Center’s First Year

This week’s Bryan City Council meeting included a glowing staff review of the first year operations of an employee health center.

Deputy City Manager Hugh Walker says more than half of those eligible see the doctor and nurse practitioner on staff. Out of 1,935 who were eligible, 1,098 made at least one visit.

Walker says start up and operational costs in the joint venture with St. Joseph were $67,407 dollars under budget.

Walker says 2,971 visits were made, higher than the original estimate of 2,225.

Dividing the number of visits into the operational costs of $336,396, Walker says the average cost per visit of $113 saved the city $127,753 compared to the Blue Cross/Blue Shield average cost per visit in the Bryan/College Station area of $156.

Walker also says employees saved $66,510 in co-pays by going to the center.
