The Texas A&M University System may have one fewer institution.
Chancellor John Sharp is developing a proposal to make the Health Science Center a part of the flagship campus.
Sharp says he has the support of A&M President Bowen Loftin and believes Health Sciences Center President Nancy Dickey is comfortable with the proposal.
Sharp says the consolidation will lead to more research opportunities between departments.
Sharp also says the move would allow more than $70 million dollars in research money from the Health Sciences Center to count at A&M. Sharp says that would raise A&M’s national ranking to as high as tenth.
The chancellor plans to to present the plan to the board of regents in August.
