Aggies sweep Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. – The No. 8 Texas A&M baseball team won both games of a doubleheader against Pepperdine on Saturday by the scores of 9-2 and 12-5 to complete a three-game sweep of the Waves at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

By winning all three contests during its first road trip of the season, the Aggies improved their record this season to 19-5, while Pepperdine fell to 16-8 on the year.

The Aggies are back in action this Tuesday when they host Houston Baptist in a 6:35 p.m. contest on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

Game #1 Recap (Texas A&M 9, Pepperdine 2)

Senior Ross Stripling tossed his second straight complete game and the fourth in the row by Texas A&M starter pitchers during a 9-2 victory in the opening contest of the twinbill.

The right-hander scattered eight hits, allowing just two runs while striking out nine and walking only one to improve his record on the season to a perfect 4-0.

Offensively, Stripling was supported by multi-hit games from Mikey Reynolds, Tyler Naquin, Brandon Wood and Troy Stein.

Texas A&M took complete control of the contest with a four-run top of the sixth that extended the Aggies’ lead to 7-0. The inning featured a two-run triple from Reynolds along with RBI from Wood and senior second baseman Scott Arthur.

Game #2 Recap (Texas A&M 12, Pepperdine 5)

Junior shortstop Mikey Reynolds collected four hits and led a 15-hit outburst by the Aggie offense in a 12-5 victory that completed the three-game sweep.

Joining Reynolds with multi-hit games were senior designated hitter Matt Juengel and freshman third baseman Blake Allemand, who each had three hits, along with senior first baseman Jacob House, who chipped in two knocks.

Right fielder Tyler Naquin drove in three, including a two-run triple in the top of the eight, while sophomore pitcher Rafael Pineda (4-0) picked up his fourth win of the season on the mound.
