Sole Finalist Selected for Sam Houston State

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ The Texas State University System has named Dana Gibson as sole finalist to become president of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.

The announcement was made Thursday. Texas law requires the regents to wait 21 days before finalizing the appointment. Gibson is SHSU’s vice president for finance and operations.

School president James Gaertner is retiring Aug. 31. Gison is a former president of National University, was a vice president at Southern Methodist University and was a vice chancellor at the University of Colorado at Denver.

Gibson holds a bachelor’s degree in business-accounting and a master’s from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, where she taught. Gibson earned a doctorate in business from the University of Texas at Arlington.
