Aggie women slam Tech, 79-51; eye Baylor

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Adaora Elonu scored 14 points to lead five Texas A&M players in double figures as the No. 14/11 Aggies cruised to a 79-51 victory over Texas Tech Saturday night.

Tyra White and Alexia Standish scored 13 points apiece, Karla Gilbert added 11 and Kelsey Bone had 10 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots for A&M (20-7, 11-5 Big 12).

The Aggies extended their six-game home winning streak and bounced back from a tough 64-55 loss at Oklahoma on Thursday. A&M also produced its seventh consecutive 20-win season under head coach Gary Blair.

The Aggies allowed Tech to get out to a 6-2 lead, but shot a season-best 58.5 percent and answered with a 21-5 run over the next 7:35 to take a double digit lead with 9 minutes to go in the first half. A&M carried a 36-18 lead into the locker room.

The Aggies stretched the score to 50-18, their largest lead of the game, with a 14-0 run in the first four-and-a-half minutes of the second half.

The Lady Raiders (17-11, 5-11) were led by Casey Morris with 15 points. She was the only player in double figures as A&M held Tech to just 29.8 percent shooting.

With the win, A&M stands in sole possession of second place in the Big 12 standings.

Up next, Texas A&M plays its final home game of the regular season when it hosts No. 1 Baylor just two days from tonight on ESPN’s Big Monday, Feb. 27. Tip time is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN2.
