Grimes County commissioners schedule another private discussion about the proposed Space X complex at Gibbons Creek Lake. Wednesday morning (May 13) at nine, commissioners will go into executive session to meet with the county attorney “to discuss or deliberate regarding commercial or financial information that the Commissioners Court has received from Space Exploration Technologies Corp. The Commissioners Court is conducting economic development negotiations and will deliberate an offer of financial or other incentive to the business prospect of a multi-phase, next generation, vertically integrated semiconductor manufacturing and advanced computing fabrication facility, proposed to be located at the Gibbons Creek Reservoir and surrounding areas.” Prior to the private discussion, commissioners will be taking public comments. Original story posted May 6, 2026: Grimes County commissioners have scheduled a public hearing to consider giving tax breaks to Elon Musk’s Space X for a proposed project at the former Gibbons Creek Lake property. The cost of the proposed semiconductor manufacturing and advanced computing fabrication facility could reach $174 billion dollars according to the public hearing notice. Before the June 3rd public hearing, commissioners at their May 6th meeting heard public comments about semiconductor plants in general and/or specifically the Space X proposal. Commissioners also heard more comments from opponents to another company proposing a data center and battery energy storage system between Roans Prairie and Singleton east of Highway 90. After the public comments, commissioners made no statements. Commissioners then met in executive session. After returning from a private discussion with the county attorney there were no motions. County judge Joe Fauth announced a postponement in naming a committee that will be involved in dealing with tax abatements and economic development grants. City Of Bryan Orders Remaining Occupants Of An Apartment Complex To Leave By June 8

The city of Bryan has ordered the remaining occupants of an apartment complex plagued by serious health and safety violations to vacate by June 8th. The notice comes after the city issued an order on February 23rd to “vacate, secure and shut off utilities” at Canyon Village apartments on Finfeather Road. That’s after the city considered “the property unsafe and in violation of minimum housing standards. The eviction, which involves occupants of 18 of the 145 units on the property, came the day after mayor Bobby Gutierrez commented on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs about the condition of the complex. Texas A&M Among Victims Of Worldwide Cyberattack Of The CANVAS Learning Management System

Victims of this week’s worldwide cyberattack of the CANVAS learning management system includes Texas A&M. An A&M spokesman provided this definition of CANVAS to WTAW News: “Texas A&M uses Canvas as its main online learning system to support classes. Faculty can post course materials and assignments, and students can submit work and view grades. Faculty also use it to communicate with students about coursework.” As of Friday (May 8) at 9:30 a.m., the last message from A&M’s technology services website said they “continue redirecting traffic from Canvas and Canvas integrated services until full stability and information integrity can be guaranteed for all Campus Members.” Click HERE to read and download from Texas A&M’s technology services website, messages regarding CANVAS that were posted through Friday (May 8) at 9:30 a.m. Instructure, the company that owns CANVAS, posted on its website that “incidents” took place April 29 and May 7. In the May 7 incident, as of Friday morning at 8:30 (May 8), Instructure has “not found evidence that data was taken”. And there is no reference to the hacking group that claimed responsibility for the cyberattack.
